Family Portrait
What You Need:
- Paper Plates
- Yarn
- Crayons, markers, or paint
What You Do:
- Let the children create a picture of their family on the inside of the plate. Then put holes in the sides of the plate and thread the yarn through it. Now you can hang the family portraits on the wall.
My Family as Me
What You Need:
- Butcher Paper
- Crayons, markers, or paint
What You Do:
- Trace the Children's shape on a piece of paper. Cut out the shape. Now let them draw a member of their family on the paper.
Mini Family
What You Need:
- Construction Paper
- Crayons, markers, or paint
What You Do:
- Cut out various human shapes (different sizes and shapes). Let the children pick out the shapes for their families and then draw their families on the shapes.
Family Tree
What You Need:
- Poster Board
- Crayons, markers, or paint
- Pictures of family
What You Do:
- Have the children bring pictures of their family to class. Let the children draw a tree on the poster board. Next have the children paste the pictures on the tree. Now you have a cute family tree.
My Family Quilt

What You Need:
- Construction Paper
- Crayons/Markers
- Glue
- Cardboard
What You Do:
- Have the children bring in a picture of each of their family members (be sure to tell the parents that they will not get the pictures back) and have the children cut the picture into pieces. Then have them make a quilt by gluing small pieces of construction paper and the pieces of the picture.
Class Mural
Have the children bring pictures of their families to class. You can then put all of the pictures on a mural and have a great class activity.
