Eric Carle Museum

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is a museum devoted to the art contained in picture books and especially children's books. The museum, whose construction was completed in 2002, is adjacent to the campus of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Its founders are the well-known children's book author and illustrator Eric Carle (author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar) and his wife Barbara. The museum includes a library of picture books, an auditorium used for performances for children and adults, and a hands-on studio component as well as a traditional exhibition space and collection. Its educational program is devoted to visual literacy.
