A really great book!
![]() I just bought this book for my two-year-old and I know he will love it. This part of the review is exactly right: "In a refreshing
departure from other books about siblings, this one does not address negative feelings of anxiety, trepidation, or jealousy.
Instead, the approach of the text is optimistic, reflected in Rockwell's bright, cheerful illustrations." That's why I bought
it! It also shows and promotes breastfeeding quite clearly in a matter-of-fact and child-friendly way. I think this is a fantastic
book that will help him understand what's going to happen when his sister is born.
Great for siblings
![]() I love this book. I had a hard time finding books that were modern and realistic for my 2 year old to read. THis one shows
the ultrasound, the baby and dressing it. It also mentioned breastfeeding and that babies cry. It was very easy for him
to understand. When he went to listen to the heartbeat one day, he said after, it was just like that book!
Best of it's Kind out there
![]() This book is something that my kids still enjoy, even with no more babies on the way. It really helped explain a pregnancy,
without being too graphic or boring. I loved reading this book to my son and pointing out how big his sister was, compared
to the pictures at different stages of pregnancy. The book also does an excellent job acknowledging what the child is experiencing,
from going through baby clothes he once wore to grandma pulling out the pictures of him growing up.
I purchased several books during my 2nd pregnancy dealing with this subject and it's the only one worth reading over and over. Definitely a must have book if you have a baby sibling on the way. Great book!
![]() I bought several books on this topic for my 3 year old and she likes this one the best. It has great pictures of a baby growing
in the womb and simple explainations. The older sibling (a boy) feels the baby kick, goes to the Dr. with his mom and hears
the baby's heartbeat and helps get out his baby clothes and toys for the new baby. Then his grandmother comes over to watch
him while the mommy and daddy go to the hospital. He helps hold and bathe the baby and soothe her when she cries. My child
asks for this over and over.
excellent
![]() My 5 year old son loves this book! He spends lots of time poring over the illustrations and has learned many new words.
His favorite parts are the chart on how the baby grows and when the family unpacks the little boy's baby clothes for the new
baby. He's already made several lists of things for the baby and plans to share many of his baby things when the baby arrives!

Fantastic story and pictures
![]() This is my favorite book of this genre and recommend it to anyone with a new baby coming. We own 6 different "new baby" books and this is the best because it touches on all aspects of the baby-to-come (it ends when the new baby is only days old). There are illustrations of the mom/older brother at the OB's office, of an embryo and fetus development, of the family going through old baby clothes to prepare for the arrival of #2, of waiting at home w/Grandma while mom & dad go to the hospital, of visiting at the hospital, Dad bathing the baby at home, mom breastfeeding, and of a crying baby, among other illustrations. My daughter wanted to read this book several times daily for months before my son was born. She still loves hearing the book read to her and will read it to her stuffed animals, too, 8 months after my son was born. (My kids are 26 months apart.)
How does your baby grow?
![]() My five-year-old niece took this book out of the library twice. Now, I'm buying it for her to have at home. The book details how a baby grows inside a mommy in simple, uncomplicated words and pictures. The development of a baby is explained in terms a very young child can understand and accept without being frightened or confused. The story also talks about the joy of having a new baby in the house. It is accurately and clearly illustrated with sweet drawings. I highly recommend it for preschool, kindergarten, and even primary school age children.
Great book for sibling!
![]() I first checked this book out at the local library and my son(3years) liked it so much he did not want to return it. We reneweduntil I found a copy to buy. It really helped him understand what was going on inside my tummy without too much explaination.
A little too much for my 2 year old...
![]() I read all of the reviews before ordering this book. It arrived today and I feel is a little too graphic for my two-year old son. It is a very informative book, however, I feel the information concerning how the egg is fertilized and how the baby is growing every few weeks is unnecessary for a toddler. We will be returning this book ASAP and choosing another.
Hello Baby by Lizzy Rockwell
![]() My 6 year old son loved this book. We read it practically every night while we were expecting our second baby. He loved to compare what stage of development our baby was in based on the fetal development chart in the book. It's a wonderful, lighthearted story that really helped him get excited about having a new baby in the house.

A lovely book.
![]() Sometimes when shopping for childrens' books online, it's hard to know what a book will really be like (though reviews help). This book I saw in a bookstore and I was captivated by it -- it's not sentimental or sappy but by the time I finished reading it I was extremely moved, even a bit teary. As other reviewers have noted it covers different aspects of prenatal preparations, baby growth, baby care, etc., but it also manages very subtly to encompass some of the emotions (in parents as well as siblings) around the arrival of a new baby. It has a somewhat larger format and wonderfully simple yet expressive illustrations. My son (who just turned four) loves it, and I think it makes him feel good about the prospect of being a big brother (the sibling in the story is a boy, but the book is written in such a way that girls would be able to relate to it, too). After all, it is the big brother who plays a pivotal role in helping to soothe the baby at the end of the story!
Great Intro to New Baby
![]() My 2-1/2 year old loves this book. It has helped her understand much better what the arrival of a new baby in our house (and in several of her friends' homes) will mean, what happens ahead of time, and what will happen when the baby is here. We've been reading this to her since she was about 2 as we prepared for the arrival of babies in various friends' homes.
* A Beautiful Book *
![]() I have to hold back the tears when I read this book to my son who is almost 4 and expecting his baby brother in a few weeks. It is so helpfull for a child his age to see the trip to the midwife, using the doplar to hear the hearbeat, feeling baby move in mommys tummy, seeing a growth chart showing baby's growth in a very accurate way for a child his age. I love the picture where they take out all of his old clothes and get them ready for the sibling. Also when the dad and son give the new baby a bath together - it is so touching. I can not highly recommend this book enough especially for an older child that can appreciate the complexity of what is really happening to his family.
Very informative and entertaining!
![]() I think this book was a little advanced for my 21 month old, but he enjoyed it nonetheless! I was very impressed with the writing and detail about having a baby.
Great illustrations
![]() My daughter will be 26 months older than her new sibling. We've been reading this book to her 3-4 times/week for the past 5 months, at her request. She loves the simple pictures. The illustrated story is easy for her to relate to her own experiences: in the OB's office, visiting the baby at the hospital, sorting through baby clothes in preparation of the layette, sponge bathing the baby, etc. It's easy for a parent to pick and choose the aspects of each picture that she wants to highlight for her child: breastfeeding, a newborn's umbilical cord stump, etc. Have been very happy with this book choice.
