A great first book for Baby!
![]() This is a remarkable picture book about babies. A great first book for parents to read to their little ones. It is able to
capture and keep their attention. (A good bonding time.) The pictures are delicate and gentle...portraying babies doing routine,
daily things...eating, sleeping, getting their diapers changed, playing with their toes, etc. It seems that young children
can really identify with the pictures. My newest granddaughter looks at the picture of the baby crying and sticks out her
upper lip. I first purchased this book years ago for my children (I bought three copies...one for each). All three have
now been passed on to my grandchildren (it has passed between the generation gap) who enjoy it just as much. I am glad to
find it still in print as I will continue to purchase it as a present for new babies as they arrive.
This is one of my favorite Books.
![]() As a Child this was my favorite book. I still have it today in my baby trunk althought the binding is all worn off. Now for
newborns this is always the first gift they get. I recently gave it to my 10 month old cousin, she loved turning the pages
and looking at the colorful pictures.I am glad to see that after 27 years this book has survived. A wonderful book for Babies!
Five stars for the art, but...
![]() ...two stars for the text. I'm not crazy about the use of the words "naughty" and "bad" in reference to babies. I know, I
know, I'm one of those touchy-feely attachment parents. My fourteen-month-old does love the book, though!
THE BEST!
![]() My sister gave this book to my daughter when she was born 35 years ago. She loved it and I loved sharing it with her. I
have pictures of her lying in her crib looking at this book before she was a year old. My son loved it, my Sunday School
babies loved it and all these years I give it to every new baby I know & all the kids and parents love it! A wonderful tool
for teaching babies to recognize objects & sounds and to recognize themselves and establish a love for reading and books.
This is a magical book.
![]() There is something magical about this book. The pictures are delightful and will fascinate even very little ones. My 18 month
old will hunt down her "Baby Book." For some reason it keeps even her limited attention. Her older sister loved it as well
and though she is now sixteen remembers reading it when little.

My son and I adore this classic board book.
![]() The copy we have of "Babies" is from my childhood. It is one that my sister and I always loved. The illustrations and the lyrical text are appealing to the reader and the child. Now I read it to my two year old son. It is unclear why he loves it so much since his favorite things these days are dinosaurs and swords, but we read it every night.
Every baby's favorite book
![]() I just purchased 6 copies to have on hand - I give this book to every newborn I am fortunate enough to know. I asked my 11 year old daughter what she remembered about this book, which was her and her 2 sisters' favorite. She said "I liked it when you read it slowly and i could match the words with the pictures. Something about the babies was very soothing". This book is magical for the way it mesmerizes even the smallest and fussiest of babies. It's the only thing my three girls have ever agreed on. I still keep it handy for any little visitors who come to our house.
In praise of Gyo Fujikawa
![]() Babies has been in my library since it first came into print. My 7 children, ranging in age 11 to 28, and I have been reading ALL of Gyo Fujikawa's books. We especially love the drawings!
Best Cuddle Book
![]() I've read this to my daughter since she was 4 mos. At 16 mos. she just loves this book. I use the pictures of babies doing things like being nice to a younger child, doing things for themselves, and being good or naughty to talk to her about day-to-day events. When I read the line, "All babies liked to be hugged and cuddled and loved," my daughter snuggles close to me and says, "Oh Baby." This book is priceless. The illustrations are not only beautiful but feature children of diverse backgrounds.

Babies
![]() I was truly excited to see I could give this particular book a review. I am 31 years old and loved this book when I was just a baby myself. I was presented with my original copy when my daughter was born 4 months ago. Imagine my excitement when my mom showed me that she saved my all time favorite. Even more excited when my daughter squealed with delite when I turned to my favorite page...the baby mice :).
the best baby book of all!
![]() "All babies like to be hugged and cuddled and loved."
So my mother read to me when I was very small, as we hugged and cuddled together. This book's illustrations are charming and beautiful--big and little babies, naughty and nice babies, sleeping, waking and crying babies. After 4 babies, I need a new "Babies" for baby #5!
![]() This is the BEST baby book. I have it memorized after reading it to my 1st 4 children so often. I had to order a new one for Baby Henry, the original is in such bad shape! It has literally been loved to pieces. Every child will love this book, it is SO sweet!
Babies Love this book!
![]() This is the best book for babies. I read this book to my own two children when they were babies. It was their favorite. Now they are grown and they read it to their babies. I have given this book to over 100 people as a baby gift. It is universally loved and almost everyone tells me how much their children love it or asks me how to get it for others as a gift. . I now buy a dozen at a time to keep on hand for baby gifts. It is a classic.
the perfect baby gift
![]() I have been buying this book for years for every new baby in my life. My kids (now 39 and 43) loved this book when they were babies. There's a very simple story line on each page, but kids love it when the reader makes up things about each baby on the page--especially the "bad" babies. As the little ones gain some facility with language, they too begin to embroider on the actions of each page, and to ask questions: "What will that baby's mommy do when the baby gets jelly all over herself?" A classic!
